It was so much fun traveling with another illustrator! When Sarah and I weren’t at the fair we walked through the streets of Bologna, stopping frequently to sketch. Or to go into a second hand shop. Or eat a gelato. I put some of the sketches I did on my SKETCHES page.
We also stumbled on an excellent little bookstore called Inuit (Via Giuseppe Petroni, 19). They specialise in selling books, comics and zines from small, independent publishers. They also run a screen printing studio, and do risograph printing. And they sell knitted cacti.
I bought a small comic/zine Swimming Pool by Anna Vaivare, published by kuš! from Latvia (they’re so good, could have bought their entire catalog), and Gelatology by Studio Fludd, riso printed and published by Inuit. When you hold the book one way the image is an ice-cream, when you turn it around it’s a geological landscape. Brilliant! I found a nifty animated gif of it on the Studio Fludd website:
